• About

  • In my 25 plus years in the Electrical Industry I have been through many pairs of overalls. I’m not satisfied that I have ever found exactly what I want from work clothing in terms of quality and value; I finally decided it was time to create Daneunder Workwear.

  • Karl Maltesen Of Daneunder Workwear In Blenheim Marlborough NZ

Born and bred in Denmark, Karl met his Kiwi wife Julie in Australia some 20 years ago and came to settle in New Zealand in 2001.

Always ambitious, it wasn't long before Karl started his own business as an Electrician in 2003 before becoming an Electrical Inspector and establishing a Metering and Inspection Company in Marlborough.

Accustomed to using quality products in Denmark, Karl felt there was a market for a range of quality, hard-wearing workwear here in New Zealand that better catered to the hard-working Kiwis tough working environment.

Daneunder Workwear was essentially born out of the ambitions of a “Dane living Down Under” who wanted to build a strong brand on a foundation of blended Kiwi and Danish values – Resilience, Dependability, Comfort and Quality.

Karl and his team have field tested Daneunder Workwear samples over the past few years.

Our workwear have been tested and certified to meet both New Zealand's certification requirements for Night and Day High Visibility Safety Garments (AS/NZS 4602.1:2001 & AS/NZS 1906.4:2010), the relevant European Norms (EN) as well as NFPA 70E, Standard for ARC Flash Protection. They are tough, durable, stylish and comfortable.

Daneunder Workwear is a 100% family owned and operated New Zealand Business. We would love to talk to you about how we can meet your future workwear requirements.

  • Our Product Quality

  • Daneunder Workwear has been 5 years in the making with many trials, much research and time going into finding the right partner that we can trust to produce consistent and high-quality garments with an emphasis on Ethical and Environmentally Sound Practices in line with our Core Values.

Our chosen partner in India has been manufacturing garments since 1999. They were the first to introduce the concept of Flame Resistant (FR) protective clothing to the Indian industry.

Karl visited the Head Office and Factory in India in September 2018, viewing first-hand where the garments are made and able to verify their stringent quality control processes and ethical working conditions in action. They also have ISO 9001:2015 certification (Quality Management).

Our partner is also a member of the India Green Building Council (IGBC) with their newest factory having an IGBC Green Factory Rating meaning they are recognized as being Energy Efficient and reducing their Environmental footprint through:

Water Efficiency / Power Efficiency / Waste Handling

All of the Flame Resistant garments in the Daneunder Workwear Range are made of inherently Flame Resistant Fabrics which means that the garments are Flame Resistant for the duration of their life span; unlike many other products which are treated to be Flame Retardant for approximately 50 washing cycles.

This means our garments do not contain any formaldehyde. Some of the fabrics we use are also “rip stop”, meaning they are durable and are unlikely to easily rip or tear.

  • Our Logo

  • Coming up with a logo to reflect our personal vision proved very difficult. We spent many hours drawing and brainstorming until we finally decided to ask a professional!

We found Alex Lloyd of Lloyd Creative through a search engine and emailed him with a brief as well as some embarrassingly primitive sketches of our own. When Alex came back with his suggestion (which I must add, was nothing like the sketches he received), we were blown away at how easily he had captured the heart of who we are.

A viking helmet seemed an obvious symbol to represent the Dane; the addition of the silver ferns for Horns was the perfect way to illustrate the solid union in business - and in life - of a Dane living "downunder" with his Kiwi wife.

    Thank you Alex!
